City Meets Safari in South Africa One&Only Cape Town will open on April 4 on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront complete with 131 rooms with views of Table Mountain, a 13,000-square-foot exclusive spa island, maze by Gordon Ramsay alongside Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsushisa’s first African outpost and a 6,000 bottle tri-level wine loft boasting the largest collection of South African wine in the world. To celebrate the opening, the hotel has partnered with South Africa’s premier safari lodge, Singita Game Reserves in the Sabi Sand and Kruger National Park, to offer an exclusive package for travel from April 4 until Sept. 30, 2009. For guests booking fours nights at the One&Only Cape Town and three nights at Singita automatically get upgraded to a 800-square-foot Island Junior Suite at One&Only AND get a private vehicle and guide during their entire stay at Singita. Package also includes full breakfast daily at One&Only Cape Town in addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner daily at one of Singita’s South African Lodges. Guests will also enjoy complimentary drinks including premium alcohol, two open land rover safaris per day and walking safaris with an experienced guide, laundry and valet service during their stay at Singita. The deal is based on the lowest room rates available at time of booking. Visit http://www.oneandonlyresorts.com or http://www.singita.com. Other key Cape Town points of interest: * Cape Town is on many lists as the “hot destination” for 2009 * A favorable exchange rate – (10 rand, equals just $1!) makes Cape Town affordable to more travelers than ever * Delta is launching direct flights to Cape Town on June 1 * Increased interest with World Cup there in 2010

Indaba Aouth Africa Tourism Trade Show

It took nearly two days to get to Durban, South Africa, but here I am at the third largest travel trade show in the world INDABA and it’s just totally overwhelming. Over 13,000 tour operators, tourism reps, journalists have decended onto this coastal city. South Africa Airlines which flies out of JFK was one of the most pleasant flights I’ve ever taken. The South Africans have a hospitality gene that is second to none. They will do anything to make your travels more enjoyable. One of my missions on this trip is to to find out about handicapped or disability accesibility as it relates to traveling in South Africa, and found two tour operators who specialize in this form of travel. We’ll be having a TV show on talkintravel TV…check out http://www.talkintravel.tv, in the near future or just this subject so stay tuned for that. In the meantime on this trip will be heading south to Port Elizabeth for a couple nights to a game reserve with a possible stop in two of the surfing meccas of the world, Jefferys Bay and Cape St Francis. And in a few days we will be in Capetown at the SAS Radisson for the end of this spectacular visit. Stay tuned for more entries into this blog as the days progress.

I’m heading to South Africa the week of May 9th so stay tuned for my updates on the trip. The first time I can remember even hearing about the country was in Bruce Brown’s movie The Endless Summer. Should be some fun so stay tuned.
